linkLast night there were fireworks over the ocean east of our house. It was the closing of the Misawa Port Festival. It, and the Misawa Summer Festival, also this past weekend, are the last summer festivals in the area. It reminds everyone that summer vacation and the festival season are over. Japanese kids go back to school this week. And so do we.
Our bedroom window faces east, toward the ocean, and since we weren't up to attending the festival, we watched the fireworks over the treetops from home.
In a moment of realization, in a voice tinged with wistfulness, Katie said, "Oh...it's our last port festival."
The year of "lasts" has begun.
